The people of Hull welcomed The Queen this morning on her visit to the city writes Charlotte Jackson.
Crowds of hundred of people were waiting inside the station hoping the catch a glimpse of Her Majesty as she stepped off the royal train.
It is her first royal visit without her husband since his retirement from his royal engagements earlier this year.
A member of the public said: “I only came into town for work shoes. I didn’t realise she was here but it’s so exciting and I want my son to see it as he’s never seen anything like this before.”
The Queen unveiled a plaque in the station to mark her visit during the City of Culture 2017 where she was greeted by the City of Culture volunteers.
Gemma Millington and daughter Amy of West Hull said: “It’s the first time we’ve both seen her, it’s a lovely atmosphere. She looks adorable.”
She will also visit the Siemens factory, before heading to the University of Hull where she will open the new £28m Allam Medical Building.
