Why you need to visit Ferens Art Gallery Open Exhibition

9 March 2017

Ferens Art Gallery is offering a rare opportunity to explore the works of Hull’s amateur and professional artists.

Its 50th annual Open Exhibition is free to visit until 12 March. Work displayed was submitted online by Hull artists over the age of 16.

Jenny Smith visited the Ferens today with her year 3 Wescott Primary School pupils.

Pieces were selected by Dr Gabriele Finaldi, Director of the National Gallery; Maureen Lipman OBE, a Hull-born actor; and David Mach, a world renowned sculptor and Royal Academician.

Following its reopening after a £4.5m refurbishment, the Ferens is also set to host four Turner prize shortlisted works between 26 September and 7 January, an honour only ever granted to four other venues outside of London.
